Getting going with Winterlight is a pretty easy and straight-forward process, but just in case, let's go over it really quickly.

The first thing to do is register an account. You can find the register link at the top of the site. If you're on a mobile device, you'll want to tap the three bar icon to pull out the mobile menu. The register button will be within the left hand panel that pops up. On the new page that loads, you'll be greeted with a prompt to read the site's rules, and the software privacy policy. Both are important, so do read these if you haven't.

Username is what you'll log in with. Displayed Name is the name that others see. You can make them both the same, but it's recommended not to do this as having a different username will make it harder for bots and external users to try brute forcing your password. They have to guess your login name and your password.

Our software does not collect email addresses; all alerts and notifications go through the site itself, so it's up to you to remember to log in and check the site once in a while. We do also have a Discord server, which integrates with our software to send messages when new posts and topics are created, so it's a decent tool for keeping up on the go.

Creating a Character

Once you've registered and logged in (tick "remember me" to never be logged out automatically), you'll find a Characters option at the top bar of the site. Click this. From there, you can click Create Character, and start filling out some basic details about your character. You may add as much detail as you'd like, or as little as you like. All that is required is a name (first and last), and a group (life state). Once you're ready, click Ready for Play and save the Character.

You'll now have this Character character as an option in post-as drop-downs in in-character locations. If you're new to role-playing, or just new to role-playing in this particular format, there are links in the Beginners drop that will help you acclimate. And remember, you're always welcome to ask questions if you need help or get lost.

Happy playing!
